Racing Optimist
For young sailors who enjoy a competitive environment and are looking for a more rigorous class to improve their skills, the DRYC Race Team is the best platform to grow young sailors.This class is for the intermediate to advanced racer and will need qualification to enroll. Students will learn advanced boat handling and sail trimming techniques. Sailors in this class are expected to travel to local and regional events, including the Carrie and Harken Series events.
- Class is taught in Optimist Racing Sailboats
- Provide your own boat, or use a DRYC Opti for the duration of the session (See Charters).
- Students will continually work on their boat-speed upwind and downwind, starting practice, mark rounding’s and boat-handling, understanding of the rules, and rigging techniques specific to racing Optis
- Opti Intermediates will practice with Opti Advanced team, but break off into their own groups when needed
- Sailors will be expected to participate in local and regional events throughout the duration of the session
- During SCYYRA events and other DRYC sanctioned regattas, there will be no practice at DRYC
Prerequisite: Intermediate Optimist.
